Born in Consolación del Sur, Cuba, in 1947, Chirino arrived in the United States as a political refugee in 1961, as a teenager. Miami became his adopted home and the stage for his extraordinary musical career.

His style, which he himself calls «Miami Sound», blends Cuban conga and son with pop, rock and jazz, creating a sound unmistakably his own. Songs like «Soy» and «Nuestro Día (Ya Viene Llegando)» became anthems of the Cuban exile community.

Chirino has won multiple Latin Grammy Awards and has been recognized as one of the most influential artists in Latin music in the United States. His commitment to the freedom of Cuba has been a constant in his life and in his work.
